Records and Milestone Galore as Women’s Lacrosse Ends Regular Season with 26-5 win over Caldwell on Senior Day

NEWARK, Del. - - The Wilmington University women's lacrosse team closed out the 2024 regular season with a 26-5 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Caldwell on Friday afternoon at the WU Athletics Complex.

With the win, the Wildcats finished tied for second in the CACC Regular Season but will be the No. 4 seed in the upcoming CACC Tournament due to tiebreakers. Friday featured several milestones and broken records for the Wildcats as well.

The Wildcats started the game with scoring the first four goals and then went on a 5-1 run to take a 9-2 lead with 2:34 to play in the first quarter. The Cougars scored the final two goals of the first quarter to send the game into the second with the Wildcats on top, 9-4.

The Wildcats didn't allow another goal until the fourth quarter, taking control with a 9-0 second quarter. Anastasia Giannoulis scored the first of her two goals in the quarter to start the frame before Ella Royer and Amelie Gamache scored to make it 12-4. Amelie Gamache scored twice in the quarter while Makenzie Stritzinger, Alea Javorowsky, Tristan Holdsworth, and Maddy Bassoff all scored in the quarter as well.

Amelie Gamache started the third quarter with a goal while Makenzie Stritzinger also scored and Zorah Perry got into the goal column with a mark to make it 21-4 with 2:46 to play.

Tristan Holdsworth scored back-to-back goals to start the fourth quarter and then Skylee Adams and Stritzinger scored again to make it a 16-0 run and extend the lead out to 25-4. Caldwell ended the run with a goal with 2:52 to play before Stritzinger scored one more to settle on the final score, 26-5.

Alea Javorowsky set a new single-game program record with 12 assists, adding a goal for 13 points. She also set a new single-season record with 82 assists and now has 105 points on the season. Ella Royer scored four goals and added two assists for six points, setting a new single-season scoring mark with 80 goals and reaching the 100-point plateau as well. Makenzie Stritzinger scored six goals while adding 13 draws, now with 110 draws for the season. Amelie Gamache scored six goals and added two assists to go with eight draws, while Tristan Holdsworth scored a career best three goals.

Katie Vindigni made six saves and is now just the fourth goal in program history with 400 or more career saves.  

The Wildcats now turn to the CACC Tournament, as they host No. 5 Bridgeport on Monday afternoon. The opening draw is set for 3:30 p.m.
