TOURNAMENT PREVIEW: Three-Peat Still on the Table for Wilmington Baseball in Single Elimination Tournament

NEWARK, Del. - - The 2021 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament Quarterfinals begin on Monday and the Wildcats secured their spot as the South Division's No. 3 with a 16-9 CACC record in the regular season.

The 2021 CACC Tournament is a single elimination style tournament with the higher seed hosting each game. The semifinals are set for Thursday, May 13, and a champion will be crowned on Saturday, May 15.

The Wildcats will square off against the South Division #2 seed Thomas Jefferson on Monday in the quarterfinals at 3:00 p.m. at Alumni Field.

Scouting the S#3 Wilmington University Wildcats:

The Wildcats are vying for their ninth CACC Tournament Championship since winning their first in 2007. They've won the conference tournament in 2007, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2018, and 2019. Last time out in 2019, the Wildcats went a perfect 4-0 in the double elimination format to win the CACC Tournament and advance to the NCAA Division II East Regional Tournament.

The Wildcats are led by outfielder Quintin Ivy who is hitting .400 on the year (34-for-85) with a CACC leading 12 doubles. He is second in the CACC with eight homers and fourth overall with 36 RBI on the year. He is also fifth in the CACC with 13 stolen bases.

The Wildcats also have Shawn Haut who is hitting .388 with nine doubles and 24 RBI and Brock Nowell who is hitting .369 with seven doubles and 15 RBI. Dual threat Dan Hyatt with hitting .339 and has 31 strikeouts in 28 innings pitched on the year.

The starting staff is led by Ryan Sandberg who leads the CACC with a 2.73 ERA. He is 4-1 on the year with 28 strikeouts in 33 innings pitched. Matt Boyko is 2-2 with a 2.89 ERA on the year while Kyle Maxwell is 3-0 with a 3.93 ERA with 26 punchouts in 18.1 innings this year. Rich Albrecht leads the CACC with five saves on the year.

As a team, the Wildcats rank seventh in batting average CACC games only with a .314 average. They have the second most doubles with 53 and the fewest strikeouts with 133. They are also third in the league with 50 stolen bases but are sixth in on-base percentage (.419) and seventh in slugging (.473).

On the hill, the Wildcats rank second in the league with a 4.72 team ERA, ranking third in the league with a 9.24 K/9 ratio, but second overall with 192 total punchouts. The Wildcats are also second overall with a .964 fielding percentage, turning the most double plays with 19.
