Baseball Team Sweeps CACC Weekly Awards After Going 5-0

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - After going a perfect 5-0 last week, the Wilmington University baseball team was rewarded by sweeping the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Weekly Honors on Monday, as Quintin Ivy, Ryan Sandberg, and Shawn Edevane were all featured.

The Wildcats defeated Kutztown and then swept Bloomfield and Felician to go 5-0 last week and improve to 20-6 overall and 12-2 in CACC play. Quintin Ivy was named the CACC Player of the Week while Ryan Sandberg was named the CACC Pitcher of the Week and Shawn Edevane was named the CACC Rookie of the Week.

Quintin Ivy (Camden, Del.) batted .364 (8-for-22) with a team high eight RBI, three homers, and seven runs scored. He slugged .773 while reaching base at a .391 clip last week as well. His week started by hitting homers in each of the first three games. He went 2-or-4 with a homer and three RBI against Kutztown. He then went 2-or-5 with a homer and three RBI in game one at Bloomfield, and then finished by going 1-for-4 with a solo homer in game two at Bloomfield. He then batted 1-for-5 with two stolen bases and two runs scored in game one at Felician and capped the week off by going 2-for-4 with a run scored in game two against the Golden Falcons. He now has 10 homers on the season.

Ryan Sandberg (Island Park, N.Y.) only had one appearance last week, but he made it a great one as he threw a complete game two-hitter against Felician on Friday. He struck out 13 batters in seven innings, only allowing two hits, a walk, and hit one batter. None of the three runs he allowed were earned on the day. He improved to 6-1 on the year and now has 80 strikeouts in 49.1 innings pitched this season, recording a 14.59 strikeout per nine innings ratio. He has a 1.46 ERA on the year as well.

Shawn Edevane (New Castle, Del.) slugged .909 last week, batting 4-for-11 with two homers, seven RBI, and six runs scored. He also had six walks on the week, finishing with a .579 on-base percentage. He batted 1-for-1 with three walks in game one at Bloomfield, blasting a three-run homer in the win. He also went 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk, and three runs scored in game one at Felician. In his rookie campaign, Edevane is hitting .267 with 16 hits, collecting two doubles, three homers, and 10 RBI on the year so far.

The Wildcats play West Chester at Citizens Bank Park on Tuesday looking for their third straight Bill Giles Invitational Championship. They then come home to face Chestnut Hill on Wednesday, host Post for a doubleheader on Saturday, and then travel to Chestnut Hill on Sunday for a doubleheader.
