BOCA RATON, Fla. - - A run in the first two at-bats held up for New Haven on Saturday, as the Chargers defeated the Wilmington University baseball team, 1-0, on the campus of Lynn University in Florida.

A leadoff triple and an ensuing single in the bottom of the first was the only run produced in the game as New Haven starter Liam Carroll and Wilmington starter Scott Borgmann settled into a pitcher's duel.

The Chargers (4-6) loaded the bases with no outs after scoring the run, but Borgmann picked up a strikeout, a comebacker to the mound, and another strikeout to escape the inning without further damage. Borgmann then didn't allow another hit until the sixth inning, finishing his outing with six strikeouts and one walk.

Jack McDonald had a two-out triple in the fourth inning, but he was left stranded and then the Wildcats had a chance to tie it in the eighth. Matt Warrington started the inning with a leadoff single, but the Wildcats couldn't advance a runner past first base. Zach Walker started the ninth with a single, but he was caught stealing for the second out of the inning and emptying the bases.

Anthony Giordano threw a scoreless seventh inning and Chase Fleming picked up two strikeouts with a scoreless eighth inning. The Wildcats had four hits but struck out 12 times. Carroll went the distance for the Chargers for the complete game shutout.

The Wildcats round out their quick trip to the Sunshine State on Sunday, playing Bentley on the campus of Barry University. The first pitch is set for 11:00 a.m.
