NEW CASTLE, Del. - - The Wilmington University baseball team left nine runners on base on Friday afternoon, including the tying run in the ninth inning in a 4-2 loss to Indiana (Pa.) at Wilson Field.

The Hawks (5-3) scored single runs in four innings, coming back from a 2-0 deficit to win the game. Mark Edeburn threw a complete game for the Hawks, allowing two runs on nine hits while picking up five strikeouts.

The Wildcats left runners on third base in the first two inning but then used a two-out rally in the fourth to strike first. Kory Pritchard hit a hard shot over the head of the second baseman, stretching it into a double while knocking in Erik Grady for the 1-0 lead. Chase Fleming followed with a two-out RBI single, chasing Pritchard home for the 2-0 lead.

The Hawks put the first two runners on base in the fifth and had both runners in scoring position with one out. Starter Derek Huff got the second out, but the Hawks came up with their own two-out RBI to get on the board.

A leadoff triple and a sacrifice fly tied the game for the Hawks in the top of the sixth and then a leadoff double came around to score in the top of the seventh to give the visitors the lead.

Another two-out RBI added an insurance run for the Haws in the top of the ninth making it a 4-2 ballgame with one chance left for the Wildcats.

Chase Fleming and Justin Hernandez started the ninth inning with back-to-back singles, but Edeburn induced a pop up on a bunt and a fly ball to center to ease some of the tension. Another infield pop-up ended the game, leaving the tying run on first base for the Wildcats.

Chase Fleming went 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Wildcats while Erik Grady batted 2-for-3 with a run scored. Kory Pritchard had the lone extra base hit for the Wildcats.

The Hawks are in New Castle all weekend, with game two of the three-game set to happen on Saturday afternoon. The first pitch at Wilson Field is set for 12:00 p.m.
