Wilmington Cheerleading Places Third at 2022 UCA Open Small Coed Division National Championships

ORLANDO, Fla. - - Returning to the mat for the first time since early 2020, the Wilmington University cheerleading team finished third at the 2022 UCA National Championships, earning a final score of 88.9 in the Open Small Coed Division last Saturday.

It is the second straight Open Small Coed National Championship for Northwest Community College while Drury won the 2020 National Championship. The Wildcats won the prior eight UCA Division II Small Coed National Championships from 2012-19.

Northwest Community College went on to win with a Finals score of 91.9 followed by Drury's 89.1 points. The Wildcats finished third with their score of 88.9 points.

Out of the 12 teams in the division, the Wildcats were one of the six teams to advance to the Finals with a semifinal score of 88.7. They were second heading into the finals, trailing only Northwest Community College's score of 94.3.

Other notable National Championships won on Saturday were: University of South Florida (Division IA), University of Alabama (All-Girl Division IA), Morehead State University (Division I), University of West Georgia (All Girl Division I), Eastern Kentucky University (Small Coed Division I), University of Cincinnati (Division IA Game Day), University of Mississippi (All Girl Division IA Game Day), University of Delaware (Small Coed Game Day), Grand Canyon University (Open Coed Game Day), Sacred Heart University (Open All Girl Game Day).
