Matthew Pulgini Finishes 10th as Golf Wraps Up 2021 Fall Season at Miami Intercollegiate

DORAL, Fla. - - The Wilmington University golf team wrapped up its 2021 fall season at the Miami Intercollegiate on Tuesday, finishing in seventh place in a field of three nationally ranked opponents on the Red Tiger Course at the Trump National Doral.

Matthew Pulgini led the Wildcats with a 10th place finish, as the Wildcats shot rounds of 307-303-309 for a 919 (+79). The 21st ranked Nova Southeastern squad won the tournament with rounds of 286-283-271 for an 840 (E).

Pulgini finished in a tie for 10th overall, shooting rounds of 75-68-70 for a 213 (+3). He started out of the gates hot on Tueday, coming up with par, birdie, bogey, birdie, birdie on his opening five holes to get to two-under par. He was two-under at the turn, but a bogey on the par four 12th and a bogey on the par three 16th brough him back to even par for the round, finishing with a 70. He finished tied for 7th overall on Par 3 Scoring at +1 for the tournament. He was +4 for the tournament on Par 4 Scoring and -2 on Par 5 Scoring. He was tied for 5th with 11 birdies in the three rounds.

Nathan Potts led the Wildcats in the opening round, shooting is tournament best 73 (+3). He finished the tournament in 38th overall with rounds of 73-78-83 for a 234 (+24).

Tyler Cleaves finished 37th overall with rounds of 78-78-77 for a 233 (+23), finishing tied for 19th in the tournament on Par 5 Scoring, coming in at -1 for the three rounds.

Pablo Quintero placed 40th overall with rounds of 81-81-79 for a 241 (+31) while Jan Lekes rounded out the Wildcats with a 42nd place finish, shooting rounds of 89-79-84 for a 252 (+42).

Nova Southeastern's Javier Calles, the 70th ranked player in NCAA Division II, won the tournament by two strokes, shooting rounds of 72-66-67 for a 205 (-5). He beat his teammate Jonny Cachon who posted a 207 (-3).

The Wildcats are off for the winter but will return to play in the spring to ultimately prepare for the NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Regional Tournament in May.
