Golf Shoots a Pair of 307’s to Finish 4th at the STAC Spartan Shootout

THIELLS, N.Y. - - The Wilmington University golf team shot a pair of 307's on Friday to finish in fourth place overall at the St. Thomas Aquinas Spartan Shootout on the Philip J. Rotella Memorial Golf Course.

Host St. Thomas Aquinas won the tournament with a 295-287 for a 582 (+6) while Dominican jumped ahead of Wilmington to finish second with rounds of 308-296 for a 604 (+28). Assumption was third overall, jumping the Wildcats by improving by 20 strokes in round two with a 315-295 for a 610 (+34). The Wildcats shot identical 307's for a 614 (+38) to finish in fourth place.

Tyler Cleaves led the tournament after the opening round, shooting a tournament best 69 (-3) to start the day. Teammate Sacha Brown tied Cleaves with the tournament best round, shooting his 69 (-3) in the second round.

Cleaves finished the tournament in fifth place after a second round 79 (+7) to complete the day with a 148 (+4).

Sacha Brown moved up 18 spots with his second round 69 (-3), finishing in 10th place overall with a two-round score of 151 (+7).

Pablo Quintero shot rounds of 76-77 for a 153 (+9), finishing in 16th overall. Jan Lekes shot rounds of 80-82 for a 162 (+18) to place 30th overall while Ryan Heenan posted scores of 84-82 for a 166 (+22) to finish in 32nd.

St. Thomas Aquinas' Tanner Littler won the tournament with a two-round score of 143 (-1), shooting 72-71 on Friday. The Spartans had the top four finishers in the tournament.

The Wildcats stay in region with their next tournament, competing in the Jefferson Invitational starting on Tuesday, April 16.
