NEWARK, Del. - - Six players reached double digits as the Wilmington University took down Georgian Court, 102-83, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action at the WU Athletics Complex on Tuesday night.

The 102 points marks the first time a Wilmington University basketball team, men or women, has reached the 100-point plateau in the NCAA era (2004-05 season). The men's previous high mark was 96 points, which was done twice in the 2007-08 season.

The high scoring affair was the product of a second half outburst, as the Wildcats (7-10, 3-5 CACC) scored 57 points in the second stanza, breaking an eight point halftime lead into as large as 32 in the second half.

The Wildcats did it from beyond the three-point arc, shattering a single-game record for three-pointers made in a contest. The Wildcats went 17-of-29 from deep, hitting 9-of-15 in the first half and 8-of-14 in the second half. The 17-made three-pointers were five more than the previous record, held at Caldwell on December 16, 2006. The 58.6 percent from three-point territory is the second highest among games with at least 10 three-pointers made.

One of those three-pointers gave the Wildcats the lead for good as Shaq Monroe-Gaskins hit one of his three bombs at the 9:35 mark of the first half, breaking a 24-24 tie and giving the home team the lead for good. Another three-pointer by Prophet Kates pushed the Wildcats' lead to nine before they settled for an eight point advantage going into the locker room, 45-37.

Back-to-back buckets to start the second half pushed the lead to 12 before a three-pointer by Herb Dennis and an alley-oop dunk by Ta'Vaune Griffin from Valentino Thompson got the crowd on its feet and gave the Wildcats a 60-42 lead with 15:27 left to play.

Drew Johnson started a 16-3 Wilmington run with a three-pointer, turning a 16 point lead into their largest of the evening at 89-57 with 5:22 remaining in regulation. Another three-pointer by Kates gave the Wildcats another 32-point lead at 94-62 with 3:54 remaining before the Lions cut it down to settle on the final score.

Fittingly enough, it was a three-pointer, the team's final of the night, that allowed them to break the 100-point barrier, as it was Kates' fourth and final trey to give the Wildcats a 102-77 advantage with 1:13 remaining.

Kates' finished with a career high 15 points, shooting 5-of-7 overall, 4-of-5 from beyond the three-point arc off the bench for the Wildcats. Shai Henry led the team with 16 points, shooting 6-of-10 from the floor, 2-of-5 from deep, while also grabbing a team high eight rebounds.

Monroe-Gaskins shot 3-of-5, all form beyond the three-point arc to score 12 points off the bench. Dennis also added 12 points for the Wildcats, shooting 5-of-9 from the floor, including 2-of-4 from deep. He also dished out four assists and recorded three steals.

Thompson scored 10 points while dishing out a game high six assists and adding five rebounds Griffin rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points as well. Griffin shot 4-of-5 from the floor, grabbed six rebounds, and recorded three blocks. Tyaire Ponzo-Meek recorded two three-pointers while Paul Moore added a trey to round out the hot shooting.

For the game, the Wildcats assisted on 26 of the team's 36 baskets, while only turning the ball over 15 times. Wilmington also out-rebounded the visitors, 41-35, for the game.

The Wildcats will look to keep the hot shooting going on Saturday, their next CACC contest. Wilmington welcomes North Division foe Bloomfield to the WU Athletics Complex for a CACC doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. The men's game is scheduled for an approximate 3 p.m. tip.
