PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - - Carson Talboys headed home two goals as the No. 11 Wilmington University men's soccer team started its 2021 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference trek on the right foot, defeating Thomas Jefferson, 4-0, on the road on Tuesday afternoon.

With the win, the Wildcats improve to 6-0-1 on the year, recording their second shutout of the year. Tallboys led the way with his two headers in the first half before Hakim Williams and Colby Niggebrugge scored their first goals of the season in the second half.

The scoring started in the 18th minute as Carson Talboys raised up above the defenders and headed home a corner on the far post. Richard Thompson sent the ball in and Talboys scored his second of the year to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead.

Four minutes later, the Wildcats were at it again on a corner kick, this time finishing off a loose ball in the box. The initial corner was defended, but the ball stayed in the area. Yohan Kim's volley was blocked in the box and the ball shot straight up in the air. Talboys was there to head it home to the far post for his second of the day.

The Rams (1-2-1, 0-1-1 CACC) had a chance moments later, but Glenn Holmes shot hit the crossbar and stayed out. The Wildcats would have three more shots in the half, but would go into the break leading 2-0. The Wildcats outshot the Rams, 19-4, in the first half.

The second half started fast for the Wildcats, as they earned a corner kick right off the bat and scored their third goal in the 51st minute. On the left side of the 18-yard box, Hakim Williams brought the ball back onto his right foot and blasted a shot to the far post for his first goal of the year.

Eight minutes later, Colby Niggebrugge got in on the action. He received a switched ball from Carson Talboys and carried it into the offensive zone. No one picked him up so he took a left footed shot from 25 yards out into the top left corner of the goal.

The Wildcats ended up outshooting the Rams, 30-5, in the match, including 12-1 in shots on goal. Konstantinos made the one save he needed to for his second shutout of the season.

The Wildcats remain in the CACC but return home for their next contest on Saturday. They face Bloomfield to wrap up 2021 Wilmington Homecoming at the WU Athletics Complex, starting at 3:00 p.m.
