PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - -  A pair of early goals carried Jefferson to a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over the Wilmington University men's soccer team on Wednesday, 2-1, despite the Wildcats again outshooting its opponent.

Jefferson (3-5, 2-2 CACC) capitalized on a pair of mishaps by the Wildcats (1-4-2, 0-2 CACC) and led, 2-0, just 4:01 into the contest. The Wildcats went on to outshoot the Rams, 15-4, in the first half, and 23-9 overall, but could only find the back of the net once in the second half before the final whistle blew.

The Rams knocked the ball away from the Wilmington netminder and scored on an open frame, taking a 1-0 lead just 1:57 into the match. The home team then scored off a rebound in early in the fifth minute of play, and before the Wildcats could work up a sweat to start the game, they were behind, 2-0, just 4:01 into the match.

But from there is seemed to be all Wilmington on the pitch, but they again struggled to find the back of the net. Jeremie Saint-Marc found himself in front with an open frame in the 20th minute, but his shot went wide. Malthe Hannesbo has a chance in the 26th minute, but the ball was cleared off the line by the Rams' defense. Yarek Carnegie was looking for his first collegiate goal, but his shot rang off the post in the 32nd minute, and then his follow up shot sailed high as well.

Carnegie set up the corner that the Wildcats would eventually score off of in the second half, as his shot from distance was pushed wide by the goalkeeper. Jefferson got a head on the intiall corner into the box, but Sora Noda was there was blast a one-time ball into the side netting, cutting the deficit in half, 2-1, in 65th minute.

Caesar Knapp had one final shot for the Wildcats, forcing the goalkeeper to make another diving save and push it out of bounds in the 89th minute. The ensuing corner was headed away by the Rams.

Matteo Crescente made six saves in goal for the Rams. Charlie Phillips and Bas Markus combined to make two saves.

The Wildcats will look to snap their four-game losing streak on Saturday when they host Bloomfield to wrap up the 2023 Homecoming Gameday festivities at the WU Athletics Complex. The men will start at 3:30 p.m.
