DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. - - The Wilmington University men's soccer team extended its winning streak to four consecutive games on Wednesday, defeating newly nationally ranked No. 24 Mercy, 4-1, at Mercy Field.

Mercy (6-2-4) struck first with a goal in the 15th minute, but the Wildcats (5-4-2) answered with a first half goal to tie it and then three second half goals to run away with it. The loss snapped a 10-game unbeaten streak for the Mavericks who entered the United Soccer Coaches National Poll this week and are third in the East Region. The Wildcats reentered the Regional Poll at No. 10 this week.

The Mavericks got on the board in the 15th minute off a corner, as Mercy's Julian Holland one-timed a volley at the back post for his third goal of the year.

But the Wildcats answered back before the halftime break, using a one-time volley of their own at the back post. Yohan Kim and Max Norden played connecting balls on the left side before Norden sent a ball all the way across to the far post. Sora Noda was there as the ball cleared the defense and he redirected it home for his third goal of the year in the 30th minute.

Out of the halftime break, the Wildcats struck early, getting the go-ahead goal in the seventh minute of action. Max Norden headed a clearing ball back into the attack. Jeremie Saint-Marc played Norden into the left corner and he was able to keep in play on the end line. He played a low cross back toward the penalty spot, finding Caesar Knapp who one-timed it under the crossbar for what ended up being the game-winning goal in the 52nd minute.

Diego Ramirez drew a foul just outside the 18-yard box in the 61st minute and Troy Paul made the Mavericks pay. Using his left foot, Troy Paul sent the 20-yarder to the far post, beating the keeper for his third goal of the year and the 3-1 lead.

Six minutes later, Tyrese Small cemented the victory with a goal off a corner. Yohan Kim sent a ball right on the far post. The ball narrowly cleared the goalkeeper and Tyrese Small skied high to head home the cross for his third goal of the year in the 67th minute.

The Wildcats outshot the Mavericks, 17-9, in the contest, including 8-3 in the first half to set the tone. Charlie Phillips made four saves to win his fourth straight start in goal.

The Wildcats return to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action the rest of the way, starting with a home game against Bridgeport on Saturday afternoon. The game against the Purple Knights is slated to start at 2:30 p.m. at the WU Athletics Complex.
