Wilmington Softball’s Rosa’Lynn Burton and Caitlyn Whiteside Named CACC’s Players of the Week

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - In leading the Wilmington University softball to a 3-3 opening weekend, freshman Rosa'Lynn Burton and sophomore Caitlyn Whiteside have been named Players of the Week in the season's first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Weekly Report.

The Wildcats started their season with six games in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Whiteside (Bermuda Dunes, Calif./Shadow Hills) led the team in the circle in being named the CACC Pitcher of the Week while Burton (Dover, Del./Caesar Rodney) was named the Co-Player and Co-Rookie of the Week.

Burton was the catalyst for the softball team in its opening weekend, batting 10-for-20 with four doubles, five RBI, five runs, and four stolen bases from atop the batting lineup. She picked up her first collegiate hit in the third inning against Southern New Hampshire, smacking a double to left. She then went 3-for-4 against Kutztown, 2-for-3 with two doubles and three runs scored against Shippensburg, and 2-for-4 against Lock Haven. She capped her first weekend of play with a 2-for-3 performance with a double and three RBI against Concord.

Whiteside is no stranger to the CACC Weekly Reports as she was also named the CACC Rookie of the Week twice last year. This time she was named the CACC Pitcher of the Week after having a say in all three of the Wildcats wins over the weekend. She went 2-1 with a pair of complete game shutouts and added a three-inning save. She struck out three batters in a complete game shutout against Southern New Hampshire to start the season before tossing a five-inning complete game shutout against Shippensburg on Saturday. She struck out six Red Raiders while not walking a batter in the win. She then came on and tossed the final three innings against Lock Haven on Saturday to pick up the saw, only allowing two hits to preserve the third shutout of the weekend for the Wildcats. She pitched 20 innings, struck out 12 batter and only allowed two walks. She finished with a 0.35 ERA.

Burton shared both the CACC Player and Rookie of the Week awards with Felician's newcomer Nicole Spiegelberg. She hit .462 with a .923 slugging percentage for the Golden Falcons in her first collegiate action as well.
