Two Top Finishes and a School Record Highlight Track & Field Teams at Tiger Season Opener

TOWSON, Md. - - The Wilmington University track and field teams had 12 Top 5 finishes including a pair of winners and a new school record as they competed at the Towson Tiger Season Opener at Johnny Unitas Stadium on Saturday.

For the second time this young season, Eliza Hildreth set the women's 200-meter school record while Abigail Chomo won the 3000-meter steeplechase, and the men's 4x100-meter relay team cruised to a victory on the track.

On the men's side, the 4x100-meter relay team of Matthew Hibbert, Bradley Spencer, Juan Fountain, and Tyler Levons finished in 42.43, more than a second before Fairleigh Dickinson crossed to win the event. Tyler Levons also raced to a pair of Top 5 finishes individually, finishing third in the 100-meter event with a new college best time of 10.83 seconds and fourth overall in the 200-meter event with a time of 22.00 seconds.

Bradley Spencer had a pair of podium finishes in the hurdles, finishing second in the 110-meter sprint with a time of 15.40 second and third overall in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.14 seconds. Rayhan Issah had a top 5 finish in the field for the Wildcats, jumping a distance of 6.22 meters to finish fifth in the long jump.

The 4x400 meter relay team of Sage Phillips, Hibbert, Fountain, and Levons had a season's best race of 3:25.63 to come in third overall, behind only a pair of NCAA Division I teams.

The women were highlighted by one winner and a school record, as the team finished with five Top 5 performers. Freshman Eliza Hildreth reset her own 200-meter school record on Saturday, finishing 12th overall with a time of 26.51. She originally broke the mark in the season opener at Salisbury, running a then record 26.54 race.

Abigail Chomo won the 3000-meter steeplechase event, setting a new personal record of 14:02.46. The relay team of Angie Chomo, Temi Mustapha, Deja Curry, and Hildreth finished third in the 4x100-meter event, crossing the line in a new season's best 50.66. The relay team of Angie Chomo, Mustapha, Curry, and Tiffany Banning helped the 4x400-meter team to a fifth-place finish, setting a new season's best with a time of 4:23.11.

Over in the field, Temi Mustapha jumped to a fourth-place finish in the triple jump, going a distance of 10.82 meters. Jada Obegi tossed the shot put 11.66 meters to finish fifth overall, just 0.13 meters short of her personal best.

The Wildcats head to West Chester next weekend to compete in the Purple and Gold Invitational. The meet takes place on Saturday at the John A. Farrell Stadium on campus.
