WEST CHESTER, Pa. - - The torrential downpour only allowed a handful of Wilmington University track and field student-athletes to compete in the Purple and Gold Invite hosted by West Chester on Saturday.

Both the men and women's team came away with 18 points, as the men finished seventh out of 18 and the women finished ninth out of 15 teams.

On the men side, the Wildcats competed in three events, two on the track and one in the field.

The 4x100 meter relay team remained red hot, winning the event at the Purple and Gold as the combination of Matthew Hibbert, Sage Phillips, Juan Fountain, and Tyler Levons ran the lap in 43.15 seconds, earning the team 10 points. Matthew Hibbert ran the 100-meter event as well, claiming third overall for eight points, crossing the line in 11.39 seconds. Christian Dollard was the only thrower that was able to compete, finishing 13th in the shotput with a distance of 33 feet, 9.5 inches.

On the women side, the Wildcats could only compete in two events, but they both brought home points for the team. Abigail Chomo finished second overall but earned 10 points as the top collegiate finisher in the 3000-meter steeplechase, running in 14:05.32. The 4x100-meter relay team finished second overall for eight more points, as the combination of Deja Curry, Temi Mustapha, Angie Chomo, and Eliza Hildreth ran the lap in 51.00 seconds.

The Wildcats will hope for better weather next weekend as they head back to Towson University to compete in the Towson Invitational. The two-day even at Johnny Unitas Stadium starts on Friday, March 29.
