West Chester Starts Fast in 69-21 Victory over Women’s Basketball

WEST CHESTER, Pa. - - West Chester scored the first 14 points of the game in route to 69-21 nonconference victory over the Wilmington University women's basketball team on Saturday inside Hollinger Field House.

The Wildcats shot 19.6 percent from the floor in the game, including just 1-for-23 from beyond the three-point arc. They also only made one trip to the foul line in the game.

Cha'Nyah Dunston-Mason scored the first points of the game for the Wildcats with a jumper with 2:12 left in the first quarter, but West Chester held a 14-2 lead by then. They scored the final five points of the quarter as well, leading 19-2 after the first frame.

Aniyah Bond hit a three-pointer to start the second quarter, but West Chester scored the next 10 points and led 31-5. They again scored the final eight points of the second quarter, taking a 39-7 lead into the halftime break.

The Wildcats held the Golden Rams (3-0) to just 35.7 percent shooting, including 6-for-30 from beyond the arc, but West Chester outrebounded the Wildcats, 58-30. The Golden Rams turned 24 Wilmington turnovers into 26 points at the other end and converted 23 offensive rebounds into 16 second chance points.

Aniyah Bond led the Wildcats with five points, four rebounds, two assists, and two blocked shots off the bench. Amber Washington scored four points while adding five rebounds and two assists. Emani Lucas-Davis scored four points off the bench as well. Trinity Brittingham tied Washington with a team high five rebounds.

The Wildcats are back in action on Tuesday night, as they travel to Staten Island to take on the Dolphins in another nonconference contest. The opening tip is set for 5:30 p.m.
