QUEENS, N.Y. - - The Wilmington University women's basketball team produced a season high 62 points while winning the second half, but it wasn't enough as Queens won the nonconference contest, 86-62, on Wednesday night at South Gym.

The Wildcats had a season high 62 points while shooting a season's best 37.9 percent from the floor. They also finished with a season's best 16 assists and 11 steals.

But it was Queens (3-9) that came out fast on Wednesday night, scoring the first nine points of the contest. Trinity Brittingham hit a three-pointer and Cha'Nyah Dunston-Mason scored on a fast break and the Wildcats cut the deficit to 9-5. But then the Knights scored the next seven points on their way to a 12-2 run, opening a 21-7 lead. Trinity Brittingham hit another three-pointer, but the Wildcats went into the second quarter trailing, 23-12.

Amber Washington hit a jumper to keep it an 11-point game early in the second, but then the Knights rattled off the next 16 points to take a commanding lead, 41-14, with 4:32 to play. Amber Washington hit another three-pointer to bring the Wildcats to within 21, but the Knights had the last say of the half, taking a 50-24 lead into the break.

A quick 7-0 run early in the third quarter brought the Wildcats to within 52-33, but the 19 points would be as close as the Wildcats would be able to get in the quarter. The Wildcats would end up winning the third quarter, 17-14, getting to within 64-41, heading into the final quarter.

Another Amber Washington three-pointer brought the Wildcats to within 18 points early in the fourth quarter, but again, that would be as close as the Wildcats would be able to get as Queens kept answering every Wildcat run. The Knights narrowly won the fourth quarter, 22-21, but the Wildcats won the second half, 38-36.

Amber Washington led three Wildcats in double figures with 15 points, hitting three three-pointer. She also led the team with six rebounds and five assists. Mia Fuller scored 14 points to go with two rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Cha'Nyah Dunston-Mason with 10 points on 5-of-10 shooting, adding five rebounds and four assists as well.

The Wildcats have one more contest before the holiday break, as they host Cheyney on Saturday at the WU Athletics Complex. The opening tip is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
