Women’s Basketball Drops CACC South Division Contest to Chestnut Hill

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - - The Wilmington University women's basketball team dropped a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference South Division contest at Chestnut Hill on Wednesday, 80-39, inside Sorgenti Arena.

With the win, the Griffins (15-5, 9-1 CACC) swept the season series from the Wildcats (1-18, 0-9 CACC). The Wildcats shot 1-of-25 form beyond the three-point arc and just 14-for-65 from the field for the night. They did put in 10-of-13 from the foul line. The Griffins made 10-of-24 from deep, a 27-point difference against the Wildcats.

Four of the 10 three-pointers the Griffins made came in the first quarter, as the Wildcats went 0-of-6 from deep in the quarter and fell behind 22-8. Haley Downin hit the Wildcats' lone three-point, coming in the second quarter, but the Griffins hit on 41.2 percent of their shots to win the quarter, 20-12, and 42-20 at the halftime break.

Trinity Brittingham scored four points in each of the second, third, and fourth quarters to lead the Wildcats with 12 points, adding three rebounds and two blocked shots. Aniyah Bond scored eight points to go with a team high nine rebounds while Cha'Nyah Dunston-Mason scored four points to go with five rebounds and an assist.

The Wildcats return home for their next contest, hosting Bridgeport on Saturday at the WU Athletics Complex. The women start the CACC doubleheader with a 1:00 p.m. tip-off.
