Bowling Goes 2-3 and Sits in Fifth Place After Day 1 at Wildcat DII/DIII Invitational

NEW CASTLE, Del. - - The Wilmington University bowling team went 2-3 on the first day of their own Wildcat DII/DII Invitational on Friday, hosted at the Bowlerama in New Castle.

The Wildcats sit in fifth place of a jam-packed leaderboard after their five Baker matches. Saturday will feature five Traditional matches to determine seedings for Bracket play on Sunday.

The Wildcats started hot on Friday, earning their 13th ever 1,000 Baker score in a 1,010-816 victory over Daemen. But they couldn't hold onto the momentum from the opening match, as they fell to day one second place holder Mercyhurst, 840-831. The team bounced back with an 848-739 victory over Chestnut Hill, but then dropped back-to-back matches to Molloy, 969-960, and Bloomfield, 882-840, to end the day.

Caldwell leads the tournament after going 4-1 and carrying a 4,671 total pin fall after the first day. Mercyhurst is right behind the Cougars, also going 4-1 with a total pin fall of 4,650. Molloy is third with a 3-2 record and a 4,634 total pin fall on Friday.

The Wildcats will play Traditional matches against New Jersey City, Kutztown, Felician, Daemen, and Caldwell on Saturday.
