Fast Start Gives Women’s Lacrosse CACC Opening Victory, 21-4, Over Post

NEWARK, Del. - - The Wilmington University women's lacrosse team opened its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference season with a 21-4 victory over Post on Saturday at the WU Athletics Complex.

A ferocious start helped carry the Wildcats (7-2, 1-0 CACC), as they scored nine goals in the first quarter. The Wildcats spread out the offense, as three different student-athletes had four goals and Alea Javorowsky had a game-high six assists and eight points.

The Wildcats scored the first four goals of the first quarter, but then Post got on the board with a mark with 9:23 to play in the first. But the Wildcats answered with three goals in 44 seconds, completing a 5-0 run to end the first quarter and lead 9-1.

Makenzie Stritzinger, Amelie Gamache, and Ella Royer all scored to start the third quarter, pushing the Wildcat lead out to 12-1.

Post scored the final goal of the first half and first goal of the second half, but the Wildcats responded again, scoring the final five goals of the third quarter to extend the lead out to 17-3 with one quarter to play.

The Wildcats went on to win the fourth quarter, 4-1, scoring the final three goals of the game to settle on the final score, 21-4.

Wilmington had 10 different scorers in the game, led by Amelie Gamache's four goals and two assists. Ella Royer scored four goals to go with one assist while Makenzie Stritzinger added four goals as well. Anastasia Giannoulis chipped in with two goals. Gamache led the team with eight draws while Royer added five. Caitlyn Welker had three caused turnovers to go with three draws. Katie Vindigni made eight saves in the win.

The Wildcats are on the road for their next game, as they will play Chestnut Hill under the lights on Wednesday night. The opening draw is set for 7:00 p.m. at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School.
