Nine Wildcats Score as Women’s Lacrosse Shuts Out Chestnut Hill

LAFAYETTE Hill, Pa. - - The Wilmington University women's lacrosse team set a new program record for margin of victory, defeating Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference foe Chestnut Hill, 24-0, on Wednesday night at Varsity Field.

Nine different Wildcats (8-2, 2-0 CACC) scored in the game, as the 24-goal margin is the largest in program history. The Wildcats defeated Caldwell, 22-0, and Alliance, 24-2, last season, which were tops on the list prior to tonight.

The Wildcats scored 11 goals in the first quarter, putting momentum on the visitor's side. Amelie Gamache scored the first two goals of the game and then Ella Royer added back-to-back goals for the 5-0 lead. Royer would go on and score two more in the quarter while Riley McQuaide, Anastasia Giannoulis, Alea Javorowsky, Makenzie Stritzinger, and Lauren Gresham all got in the scoring act in the first quarter.

Makenzie Stritzinger and Ella Royer scored in the second quarter while Katie Vindigni made four saves, sending the Wildcats into the halftime break leading 13-0.

Amelie Gamache scored three goals in the third quarter while Skylee Adams scored her first goal of the game on a free position shot. The Wildcats scored six goals in all in the third, taking a 19-0 lead.

Michaella Cook made it nine goal scorers for the Wildcats with her goal in the fourth quarter while Makenzie Stritzinger led the Wildcats with two goals and an assist in the final frame.

Amelie Gamache led the offense with five goals and two assists while Ella Royer had five goals, an assist, five draws, four ground balls, and three caused turnovers. Makenzie Stritzinger scored four goals while adding two assists and 11 draw controls. Anastasia Giannoulis scored three goals and added an assist while Lauren Gresham and Riley McQuaide scored two goals each. Katie Vindigni finished with five saves.

The Wildcats return home for their next game, as they host Bridgeport on Saturday afternoon at the WU Athletics Complex. The opening draw is set for 1:00 p.m.
