Caldwell Answers Every Wildcat Goal in 3-3 Women’s Soccer Tie

CALDWELL, N.J. - - Caldwell had an answer for every Wilmington University women's soccer goal on Sunday, as the two teams tied, 3-3, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action at Kiwanis Oval.

The Wildcats (9-4-3, 6-2-2 CACC) scored first, but the Cougars (7-8-1, 5-5-1 CACC) had an answer all three times the Wildcats went ahead, including just 55 second after the Wildcats took a 3-2 lead in the 75th minute.

The scoring started in the 25th minute off a freekick. The ball was cleared out of the box, but the Wildcats recovered the ball to stay on the attack. Lauren Hoelke played a ball into the box, finding Jimena Garcia Risoto. Garcia Risoto brought the cross down and tucked into the side netting for the 1-0 lead with 20:14 to play in the half.

But the Cougars answered in the 36th minute, tying the game with a shot from outside the box.

The Wildcats were able to get take a 2-1 lead into the halftime break though, as Kasie Lambert played a corner to the far post, finding Samantha Emmi for the header goal with just 2:48 to play before the break.

The Cougars scored first out of the break, tying the game, 2-2, with a goal in the 69th minute. The Wildcats again regained the lead in the 75th minute, again finding Samantha Emmi off a corner. Kasie Lambert again played a ball to the back post, finding Emmi who headed it home for her second goal of the game and reclaiming a 3-2 lead.

Less than a minute late, the game was tied again as Caldwell answered right back. With the ball on the endline, the Cougars' Alexa Peto turned back into the field and fired a left footed shot, sneaking past the Wildcats goalkeeper at the near post to knot the score, 3-3.

Lauren Hoelke had a chance to win it in the final two minutes of play, but her doorstep shot was turned away by Jamie-Lee Bamford and the game went to overtime.

Emily Navarrete had the best chance in the extra periods, getting a shot off in the 108th minute, but her left footed attempt hit off the right post, staying out of the goal.

The Wildcats led in shots, 21-10, including 14-2 in the first half. The Wildcats also took more corners, 6-3.

The Wildcats are two points ahead of Goldey-Beacom in fourth place in the CACC standings with one game left in the regular season. The top four teams will host a CACC Tournament playoff game. The Wildcats host Chestnut Hill on Wednesday in their final regular season contest. Opening kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. at the WU Athletics Complex.

The team will honor its seniors prior to the start of the game for Senior Day.
