NEWARK, Del. - - The offense broke out in a big way for the Wilmington University women's soccer team, defeating Bloomfield, 5-1, on Homecoming Saturday at the WU Athletics Complex to get back over .500 for the season.

Four Wildcats (3-2-2, 2-1 CACC) picked up their first goals of the season, including Sharon Freire Omonigho scoring her first collegiate career goal in the win. Anna Ljuljic, Julia Yuhase, and Brianna Wons all finished with a goal and an assist.

The scoring started in the 20th minute as Julia Yuhase put the Wildcats on the board. Manuela Restrepo played a beautiful chip over the back line of the Bears and Yuhase caught up to it before the Bears' goalkeeper. Yuhase slotted home the low shot for the 1-0 lead.

Alicia Whyte made a long run from her right back position to give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead in the 33rd minute. Whyte played the ball forward from the back line and never stopped. She was rewarded as Anna Ljuljic played a through ball down the middle. She skirted around the goalkeeper and beat the defender at the line for her first goal of the season.

The Wildcats struck quickly to start the second half as Sharon Freire Omonigho tallied her first career goal in the 51st minute. Emilie Larsen got in on the left side, stopped, turned, and fired, but her initial shot was saved. Brianna Wons was there to collect the rebound, played it back to Omonigho in the box and she one-timed it home.

Anna Ljuljic got in on the scoring just moments later, as she beat the offsides trap and was in on the goalkeeper alone in the 54th minute. A Bears clearance rolled to Whyte at the midfield line and she played a long ball down the middle to Ljuljic. The offside flag stayed down and Ljuljic made it 4-0 with her first goal of the season.

The Bears got on the board in the 56th minute, but that would be as close as the Bears would get. The Wildcats would tack one more on in the 90th minute, as Evelyn Payne was fouled in the box in the final minute. Brianna Wons stepped up and took the attempt, which was saved, but the rebound bounced right to her as she tapped it home for the 5-1 lead.

The Wildcats led in shots, 25-3, including 17-1 in the second half. Manuela Restrepo, Emilie Larsen, and Brianna Wons all had four shots in the game.

The Wildcats remain home for their next game, as they host Holy Family on Tuesday at the WU Athletics Complex. The opening whistle is set for 3:30 p.m. against the Tigers.
