ORANGEBURG, N.Y. - - The Wilmington University women's soccer team overcame an early deficit and the pouring rain to win its third consecutive Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest on Saturday afternoon at O'Brien Field.

Manuela Restrepo and Emilie Larsen scored two goals each while Restrepo tallied six points in the downpour. The Chargers (3-4-2, 2-1-2 CACC) scored first, going over the top from distance in the seventh minute, but the Wildcats scored three in the first half before putting the game away with two more in the second half to lead 5-1 in the 71st minute.

Manuela Restrepo started the scoring for the Wildcats in the 11th minute, as the Dominican goalkeeper couldn't corral the ball on a sliding attempt. Restrepo was there to gather the ball and score from the right side of the box to tie the game, 1-1. Restrepo then buried the third attempt by the Wildcats early in the 16th minute, as shots from Evelyn Payne and Alyssa Ruggeri were saves on the doorstep. Ruggeri's attempt was stopped, but the rebound popped right to Restrepo who found the back of the net for the 2-1 lead.

A counterattack led to the Wildcats' third goal, as the Wildcats broke loose after a Dominican corner. Restrepo played Evelyn Payne forward and she was able to score her third of the year in the 34th minute to give the Wildcats a 3-1 lead at the halftime break.

Emilie Larsen scored on her own rebound in the 59th minute, getting a through ball down the right side from Manuela Restrepo. Larsen's first attempt at the near post was stopped, but he stuffed the rebound home for her first of the year.

Restrepo was in the middle of it again in the 71st minute, as she played a brilliant ball down the middle to a charging Larsen. Larsen touched it around the goalkeeper who was coming off her line, and slid it home for her second of the game and the 5-1 lead.

Dominican would add a goal in the 90th minute, but it was too little too late as the Wildcats won their third straight game. The Wildcats outshot the Chargers, 21-11, including 15-5 in shots on goal.

The Wildcats remain on the road for their next contest, as they compete in a nonconference match on Wednesday afternoon at St. Thomas Aquinas. The opening whistle is set for 2:30 p.m.
