Women’s Tennis Stays Unbeaten with 7-0 Victory at Post

MIDDLEBURY, Conn. - - The Wilmington University women's tennis team remained unbeaten in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play with a 7-0 sweep at Post on Sunday afternoon at the Edgewood Bath and Tennis Club.

With the win, the Wildcats move to 6-0 overall in the fall and 6-0 in CACC play. The win also secures the season sweep over the Eagles (7-3, 2-3 CACC), also defeating them on September 17.

Sunday started with a sweep of the doubles' matches, started by Marley Trifunovic and Valentina Ivankovic at No. 3 doubles. They won 6-0 before Carmelle Vial and Fenna Swaan gave the Wildcats the doubles' point with a 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles. Larize Nel and Alva Norberg finished off the sweep with a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles.

Jess Purdy started the singles matches off with a straight set victory at No. 3, 6-1 and 6-1. Neus Ramos Moreno gave the Wildcats their third point with a 6-4 and 6-3 victory at No. 2 and then Valentina Ivankovic settled the team victory with a 6-2 and 6-3 win at No. 4.

Carmelle Vial needed a second set tiebreaker but won at No. 1 singles, 6-2 and 7-6 (7-4), before Fenna Swaan came back from down a set to win a third set super set at No. 5 singles, 5-7, 6-5, 12-10. Larize Nel dropped the second set at No. 6 singles, but secure the shutout with a third set super set victory as well, winning 10-7, to bagel the Eagles, 7-0.

Sunday started a string of four matches for the Wildcats this week, as they are back on the court Monday afternoon at Chestnut Hill. Doubles are set to begin at 2:00 p.m. at the CHC Tennis Courts.
