WILMINGTON, Del. - - The Wilmington University women's tennis team remained in first place in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference with a 4-3 victory against Post on Wednesday at the Delcastle Tennis Center, sweeping the season series from the Eagles.

The Wildcats are now 6-1 in the CACC with three matches remaining in the regular season. The top four teams make the CACC Tournament, hosted by the Wildcats at the Delcastle Tennis Center on Friday, October 20 and Saturday, October 21.

On Wednesday, the Wildcats got things started with a sweep of the doubles competition. The combination of Alva Norberg and Marley Trifunovic started the match with a 6-0 blanking at No. 3 doubles before Kushi Khandoji and Fenna Swaan cemented the doubles point with a 6-2 win at No. 1. Larize Nel and Jess Purdy completed the doubles sweep with a 6-3 win at No. 2.

Marley Trifunovic and Kushi Khandoji brought the Wildcats to within a point of the win with victories at No. 4 and No. 2 singles. Trifunovic won 6-2 and 6-0 before Khandoji also won in straight sets, 6-1 and 6-2, for the 3-0 team lead.

The Eagles got on the board with a win at No. 1, but then Fenna Swaan closed out the team victory with a win at No. 6. She needed a couple extra points to get it done, but still got it done in straight sets. Swaan won, 6-2 and 7-6, going 7-5 in the second set tiebreaker to earn the victory.

Larize Nel won the opening set, 6-0, at No. 5 singles, before Post battled back in the second set. Going to the second set tiebreaker, Nel was forced to bow out due to an injury, tied 2-2 in the tiebreaker. Alva Norberg won the first set, 6-4, at No. 3 singles as well, but Post battled back to win the second set in a tiebreaker, 7-4, and then won the third set superset, 11-9, to close the gap to 4-3 overall.

The Wildcats take to the road for their next two matches, against the two of the top three teams in the CACC. They first travel to Chestnut Hill on Friday before going to Jefferson on Monday. The match against the Griffins is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Friday.
