Win Streak Stretched to Five as Volleyball Sweeps Concordia

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - - The winning streak has extended to five straight for the Wilmington University volleyball team, as they defeated Concordia in straight sets on Friday night at the Meyer Athletics Center.

Set scores for the match were 25-23, 25-15, and 25-17.

A 5-0 run allowed the Wildcats to even the first set, and then another 7-1 spurt put the Wildcats (15-7, 7-3 CACC) up 14-9. A block brought the Clippers (3-7, 3-7 CACC) to with 18-16, and the Clippers had it to within two at 20-18. But a service error started a 3-0 run for the Wildcats, with Mandy Behiels giving the Wildcats a 23-18 lead. Facing set point, the Clippers stayed alive with four straight points to get within 24-23, but Bailey Andrews put down a kill to end the set, 25-23.

The second set was tied, 14-14, when the Wildcats began to turn it on. Bailey Andrews started a 6-0 run with a kill for the Wildcats, forcing the Clippers into a timeout at 19-14. Now leading 20-15, Dorie Moore started another 5-0 run, as the Wildcats got an ace from Moore before she finished it off with another kill, 25-15. The Wildcats scored 11 of the final 12 points in the second set.

The Wildcats just out fast in the third set, as Genevieve Hughes and Elly Collins served the Wildcats to a 7-1 lead. The Clippers battled back though, as they eventually tied the set at 8-8, and even took a 10-9 lead. The set was tied as late as 15-15, and the Wildcats led 18-17 before going on a set ending run. A ball-handling error put the ball back into the Wildcats' hands and Mandy Behiels started the run with an ace. Angel Oliver put down a kill before Behiels collected another ace. Oliver put down another kill before a bad set and an attack error gave the Wildcats the set, 25-17, and the match, 3-0.

The offense was led by Behiels' 10 kills, as she hit .214 on the night with only four errors. She also added seven digs as well as a team high four aces. Bailey Andrews, Dorie Moore, and Rebecca Rawlinson each collected eight kills, with Andrews hitting a team high .353 with only two errors.

Sarah Couch dished out 33 assists on the night, adding seven digs as well. Elly Collins led the team with 16 digs on the night, adding three assists and two aces as well. Angel Oliver and Dorie Moore led the team at the net with three block assists.

The Wildcats play their two final nonconference matches of the year tomorrow, as they head to Dobbs Ferry, New York for a doubleheader at Mercy College. They first play Southern New Hampshire at 1:00 p.m. and then face host Mercy at 3:00 p.m.
