NEW CASTLE, Del. - - Former WilmU Wildcat cross country student-athlete Ken Fontal succumbed to his injuries after an accident on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2019. His former teammates and the Wilmington University's Athletics Department are mourning his loss.

Fontal, a four-time All-CACC performer and two-time all-regional runner, graduated in May of 2017 with a bachelor's degree in Finance. He ran for four years for WilmU's cross country program and was the recipient of several honors, including Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Runner of the Year (2016), and winner of the CACC Championship in his senior season.

The accomplished athlete also earned the CACC Rookie of the Year title in 2013 for his fifth place finish on a team that won the CACC Championship with a perfect 15 points. As a sophomore, Fontal finished 14th at the CACC Championship and second overall as a junior.

In addition to being an accomplished athlete and student, Fontal also was a friend to many and an ambassador of his alma mater's sports programs. The WilmU Athletics Department extends its deepest sympathies to the Fontal family.
