Josh Ruggiero Steps Down as Wilmington University Women’s Soccer Head Coach

NEWARK, Del. - - Wilmington University women’s soccer head coach Josh Ruggiero has resigned his coaching position, citing commitments to both his full-time job and family as reasons. Ruggiero has been at the helm of the Wildcats for the past seven seasons.

Ruggiero leaves the position as the longest tenured coach of the Wildcats since the University became NCAA eligible for the 2004 season. He produced the most wins (58) in program history, and was named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Coach of the Year twice in his seven seasons.

“Josh put his heart and soul into the women’s soccer program over the past seven years,” Director of Athletics Linda Andrzjewski said. “He came in as a student-athlete before taking over the coaching position and will always be a Wildcat.”

During his tenure, Ruggiero has won the CACC Regular Season title twice, including a perfect 12-0 conference record in 2010. The 2012 squad went 10-1-1 in the regular season, earning the top seed in the CACC Tournament yet again. The Wildcats went on to win the CACC Tournament, earning the first ever NCAA Division II East Regional Tournament berth in program history.

Ruggiero’s teams also won 48 games inside the CACC during his coaching tenure, going 48-30-5 overall.
