NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Commissioner Dan Mara announced that a record 192 student-athletes from seven spring championship sports wee named to the Spring 2016 CACC All-Academic Team, with 11 student-athletes coming from Wilmington University.

The Wildcats only compete in four of the seven spring championship sports (men's golf, softball, women's lacrosse, and baseball), with the CACC naming a record 192 spring athletes (additional sports include men's tennis, and men's & women's track & field). The new total breaks the old mark of 155 student-athletes, which was set each of the last two years.

In order to be named to the CACC Spring All-Academic Team, recipients must have participated in a CACC Championship sport in the spring. They must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, have been a student-athlete at their current school for at least two semesters, and achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher through the fall semester of 2015.

The Wildcat baseball team led Wilmington on the list, putting five student-athletes on the CACC Spring All-Academic Team. The Wildcats have a pair of three-time honorees in seniors Chris Lopez and Peter Monahan. Classmate Jay Kluka is a two-time honoree while junior Kyle Menchaca and sophomore Zach Rumford made their way onto the All-Academic Team for the first time in their careers.

Softball led the way in the CACC with 61 honorees, three of which came from the Wildcats. Junior Colby Wyatt is now a two-time honoree while sophomores Danielle Bradley and Shannon Brantley earned a spot on the team as well for the first time.

The women's lacrosse team sported a pair of student-athletes on the team as well, as junior Gabby Spalt made a return trip as a two-time honoree. Sophomore Christina Ziegler also earned a spot on the team for women's lacrosse.

Golf's Andreas Lunding rounds out the Wildcats on the CACC Spring 2016 All-Academic Team, as he returns to the team for the third straight year. The two-time honoree carries a 3.55 GPA while leading his team in to the Top 8 at the NCAA Division II National Tournament for the first time in program history.

Around the CACC, 44 student-athletes were named to both the All-Academic team and the All-CACC team in their respective sport this spring, including Kluka, Lunding, Bradley, Brantley, and Wyatt for the Wildcats.
