Christian Adorno named CACC Baseball Rookie of the Week

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Wilmington University freshman Christian Adorno has been named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week, helping the baseball team to a 5-2 week, announced by the conference office on Monday.

It is the first time this season that Adorno (Millville, N.J./St. Augustine Prep) has been named CACC Rookie of the Week. He batted 7-for-12 in four games this week, capping the week with a 4-for-5 performance in game two against Dominican.

The freshman started the week with batting 1-for-2 with a run in game two at Shippensburg on Monday. Adorno then batted 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored at Kutztown.

His best game last week capped play for the Wildcats, as he collected four singles and scored two runs in game two against Dominican. He started scoring innings in the fourth and eighth frames, leading off with singles before coming around to score.

Baseball's Jamie Treml was named to the Weekly Honor Roll after picking up 12 strikeouts in seven innings, striking out 11 in six innings in his lone start at Kutztown. He allowed one unearned run on the week, only giving up three hits.

The Wildcats' sweep on Saturday earned the team the 2014 CACC Regular Season title and the CACC Tournament's top seed. The team received a bye in the first round of the Tournament and will begin play on Thursday May 8 in the double elimination portion of the tournament at Wilson Field.

The Wildcats wrap up regular season play this week, hosting Queens (N.Y.) on Wednesday and Bridgeport on Thursday.
