Mike Annone Adds NCBWA East Region Hitter of the Week to Weekly Honors

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - - On top of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player of the Week honor, Wilmington University baseball sophomore Mike Annone has been named the East Region National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Hitter of the Week for games played from April 7-13, 2014.

Annone (Wilmington, Del./Concord) led the Wildcats (25-5-1, 13-3 CACC) to a 7-0 week, by hitting 9-for-21 (.429) with two home runs, a double, a triple, 11 RBI, and four runs scored.

The sophomore started the week by going 1-for-4 in both games of a doubleheader against Post, knocking in a run in the opener. Annone went 1-for-1 with an RBI and a run scored in game one against Concordia, before earning the start in game two and going 1-for-3 at the plate.

Annone's week skyrocketed from there, as he went 3-for-5 with a two home runs, a double, five RBI, and two runs scored in the first game at Bloomfield. The second baseman than batted 2-for-3 with a triple, four more RBI, and a run scored in the nightcap against the Deacons.

He earned five walks on the week, getting on base over half the time on the week, earning a .519 on-base percentage. Annone also slugged .857 in playing all seven games, (five starts) this past week.

Dowling's right-handed pitcher Tyler Badamo was named the East Region NCWBA Pitcher of the Week after striking out a season high 17 batters in a victory over Queens. He tossed his fourth straight consecutive complete game, scattering six hits while not allowing an earned run. Badamo has not allowed an earned run in 52.2 consecutive innings and continues to lead the ECC with a 0.54 ERA and 86 strikeouts. It is the second time this season Badamo has been named the East Region's Pitcher of the Week.

The Wildcats doubleheader at St. Thomas Aquinas scheduled for Tuesday has been postponed and will next travel to Queens for a single game on Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
