Matt Warrington and Ella Royer Earn CACC Player of the Week Honors

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Another week into the spring season and the Wildcats have two student-athletes atop the weekly Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference awards, Matt Warrington of baseball and Ella Royer of women's lacrosse, as announced by the conference office on Monday.

Ella Royer (Sherwood Park, Alberta) continues to shine for the Wildcats as Royer earns her second consecutive CACC Rookie of the Week honor in only her second week as a Wildcat. Royer was coming off a week where she produced six points (5 goals & one assist) and 11 ground balls in a 17-0 win over St. Thomas Aquinas. There were no signs of slowing down this week in the Wildcats' two games. Royer led the Wildcats with five goals and six ground balls in a 10-9 victory over Shepard on Friday. In the Wildcat's most recent game, Royer led the Wildcat's again with four goals against Ashland on Sunday. The Wildcats will be back in action Tuesday afternoon at West Virginia Wesleyan at 2:00 PM.

The Wilmington University baseball team finished their first four games of the season in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, at the Cal Ripken Experience. The 'Cats finished the road trip with three wins and a loss. In their last game of the trip, junior Matt Warrington threw seven scoreless innings to help secure a 12-1 victory over Franklin Pierce University. Warrington's performance on the mound secured him the CACC Pitcher of the Week. Warrington went seven innings, giving up only six hits, and struck out seven batters in his first mound appearance of the year. The Wildcat's next stop will be in Auburndale, Florida, where they will play eight games in the Sunshine State. The Wildcats' first game in Florida will be against Minnesota State Mankato at the Lake Myrtle Sports Park.

Seven other Wildcats earned spots on the CACC Weekly Honor Roll. Men's Basketball Taalib Holloman scored 27 points in a playoff-clinching game against Goldey-Beacom on Saturday. Baseball's JJ Killen had five hits with 13 at-bats (.385 avg.), added eight RBIs, and one home run in four games over the weekend. Lexi Moore recorded seven hits in six games last week with 18 at-bats (.389 avg.), one RBI, and five stolen bases for softball. Kylee Gunkel posted a 2-0 record this week while appearing in all four games. Men's Lacrosse Gio Marino scored four goals on six shots on goal against #2 Mercyhurst Saturday. Katie Vindigni recorded 22 saves in three games for Women's Lacrosse.
