Wilmington to Host 2018 CACC Golf Championship at Deerfield Country Club (Sept. 29-Oct. 1)

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (July 17, 2018) -- Wilmington University and Deerfield Country Club in Newark, Del., will serve as the hosts for the 2018 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Golf Championship, as announced on Tuesday by Commissioner Dan Mara. The championship will be held Sept. 29 through Oct. 1, with the 29th being the practice round day, followed by the first round on the 30th and the final round on the 1st.

Deerfield is a par-70 golf course, playing at approximately 6,300 yards from the championship tees. It marks the fourth-consecutive CACC Golf Championship Wilmington will be hosting, as the Wildcats hosted the 2016 and 2017 championships in the spring, and the 2017-18 championship that was held during the fall for the first time. The previous three championships were held at Back Creek Golf Club in Middletown.

The 2018 championship marks the second-consecutive year the event will be held in the fall. Last season, the Wildcats shot a final round, 299, to claim the program's eighth-straight CACC Championship. All five Wildcats competing in the tournament finished among the top eight in the standings. Concordia College's Evan Hong won individual medalist honors by carding a two-round total of 144 (+2).

The winner of the 2018 championship will earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division II East/Atlantic Region Tournament in early May 2019. The CACC has consistently been one of the top conferences in the East and Atlantic Regions, as the league has seen anywhere from four to six programs represented at the various regionals over the last several years. Three CACC schools have combined to either capture the team or individual championship in four of the last seven NCAA Regionals, including Wilmington in 2012 (team champion), Wilmington in 2015 (team champion), Dominican College in 2017 (team champion) and Concordia College's Minwoo Park in 2018 (individual champion).
