Golf Finishes Third at Jefferson Spring Invite

NORRISTOWN, Pa. - - Coming down the home stretch of the 2023-24 season, the Wilmington University golf team earned a third-place finish at the Jefferson Spring Invitational, shooting rounds of 319-308 for a 627 (+67) on Tuesday and Wednesday at the Jeffersonville Golf Club.

Ranked 11th in the latest NCAA Golf Regional Rankings and 7th overall in the East in the Scoreboard Powered by Clippd rankings, the Wildcats are aiming to be one of the 10 teams in the called out to compete in the NCAA Division II East/Atlantic Super Regional Tournament in May.

Tyler Cleaves finished fourth overall and was the first non-Goldey-Beacom team member in the standings. Goldey-Beacom is the No. 1 ranked team in both the Clippd and NCAA East Regional Rankings. Cleaves shot rounds of 78-72 for a 150 (+10), just six strokes off the top of the leaderboard. He finished 15th overall in Par 3 scoring with a 3.63 score average, 5th overall in Par 4 scoring with a 4.21 score average and 8th overall in Par 5 scoring with a 5.00 score average.

Pablo Quintero finished 14th overall and led the Wildcats after the first round with a 74 (+4). He shot rounds of 74-82 for a 156 (+16). He finished 4th in the tournament in Par 3 Scoring with a 3.25 scoring average, 18th in Par 4 scoring with a 4.46 score average, and 22nd overall in Par 5 scoring with a 5.75 score average.

Ryan Heenan had an eight-stroke improvement between rounds, shooting rounds of 84-76 for a 160 (+20). Heenan finished 8th in the tournament in Par 3 scoring, shooting a 3.38 average in the two rounds. He also finished 23 in Par 4 scoring with a 4.54 average and 29th overall in Par 5 scoring with a 6.00 average.

Sacha Brown placed 22nd overall with rounds of 83-79 for a 162 (+22). Brown finished 19th in the tournament in Par 4 scoring with a 4.50 scoring average and 18th overall in Par 5 scoring, shooting an average of 5.50 on the long holes.

Blake Ramirez rounded out the team scoring with rounds of 87-81 for a 168 (+28) to finishin in 29th place. He finished 24th overall in Par 4 scoring, shooting 4.58 on average while also finishing 21st overall in Par 5 scoring, shooting an average of 5.75 stroke per par 5 hole.

Playing as an individual, Jan Lekes finished tied for 25th overall while shooting rounds of 83-82 for a 165 (+25). He was 11th overall in par 4 scoring, shooting an average of 4.38.

The Wildcats have one tournament left to move up the rankings, as they will compete in the Super Regional Preview hosted by West Liberty in Wheeling, West Virginia. They will head to the Oglebay Resort for two rounds starting on April 22.
