NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Senior forward Brandon Fox earned a spot as an All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Honorable Mention team for his work on the low block during the 2012-13 men's basketball season, voted on by the conference's 13 head coaches.
The conference office released the 22 names announced to the All-CACC teams on Thursday, with Fox the lone representative from Wilmington University. Fox was joined by six other members from around the CACC on the honorable mention list.
Fox led the Wildcats in scoring and rebounding on the year, scoring 14.1 points per game while grabbing 7.0 boards a game. He finished 22nd in the CACC in scoring average while his 175 rebounds were 12th among CACC competition. He denied 27 shot attempts from opponents, ranking ninth in the league.
The senior from Deptford, N.J., scored in double digits in 20 of the teams' 25 games, including a new career high 31 points at Concordia on January 26. He was the lone Wildcat to record a double-double this season, accomplishing the feat on four separate occasions. He tallied 19 points and 11 rebounds against the University of the Sciences on January 12, and recorded a double-double in his final collegiate game of his career, scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds against Philadelphia last Saturday. He had a season high 11 rebounds on three different occasions this year.
Fox also set a new career mark in blocks as a senior, rejecting five shots against Nyack at home on February 2. His biggest block of the year came in the final second of his career, as he denied a charging Philadelphia Ram at the rim who was looking to tie the game at the buzzer with a layup.
University of the Sciences sophomore Garret Kerr backed up his 2011-12 CACC Rookie of the Year award by being named the 2012-13 CACC Player of the Year. The forward led the CACC, and the entire East Region in scoring, 21.5 points per game, and rebound, 12.6 per game, during the regular season. His 12.6 rebounds also ranked as the top mark in all NCAA Division II. He collected a nation's leading 18 double-double during the year.
Philadelphia's Andre Gibbs was selected as the CACC's Rookie of the Year, starting in 25 of the teams 26 games. The freshman averaged 38.7 minutes per game for the Rams while leading the team in free throw percentage, 88.7 percent, good enough for second in the CACC.
Dominican College head coach Joe Clinton was named the CACC Coach of the Year after leading the Chargers to a North Division Regular Season Title with a 21-5 overall mark and a 15-3 mark in the CACC. He had his team ranked as high as No. 23 in the NABC Top 25 Coaches Poll throughout the season.
Nyack College was honored with the CACC's Men's Basketball Sportsmanship Team of the Year Award.
The 2012-13 CACC Championships will begin Saturday, March 2, with games played at the campus of the higher seed. The CACC Semifinals and Championship will be hosted by the University of the Sciences on March 8 and 9, respectively.
