Mike Gallagher Announces his Resignation as Wilmington University’s Men’s Basketball Head Coach

NEWARK, Del. - - After five seasons at the helm of the Wilmington University men's basketball team, head coach Mike Gallagher announced his resignation on Monday. The athletic department will conduct a national search for his successor.

"Mike cared and worked hard for the student-athletes, the program, and for Wilmington University," Director of Athletics Linda Andrzjewski said. "We wish him the best in all his future endeavors."

Gallagher led the Wildcats to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament in his first season as the head coach in 2009-10, going 7-10 in the CACC to earn the South Division's third seed. He won 43 games, 30 of which came in the CACC during his five seasons at Wilmington.

"I am grateful to the administration of Wilmington University for giving me the opportunity to be a head coach at this level and for the support they have given me during my career here," Gallagher said.

Gallagher coached five All-CACC performers during his tenure on the Wilmington sidelines, including three in his first season in 2009-10. He also coached Wilmington's first All-CACC First Team student-athlete since the basketball team joined the NCAA ranks for the 2004-05 season. Corye Payton earned First Team honors for the 2011-12 season.
