Nalik Veasley Named CACC Defensive Player of the Week for Fourth Time

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - For the fourth time this season, Wilmington University men's basketball's lane protector Nalik Veasley has been named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, as announced by the conference office.

Nalik Veasley (Clayton, Del.) was named the CACC Defensive Player of the Week three weeks in a row from November 20 to December 4, and now adds his fourth weekly honor of the season after leading the Wildcats to a 2-0 week last week.

Veasley was the ultimate rim protector in the team's nonconference victory over the District of Columbia last Monday, denying seven shots while adding nine defensive rebounds and 11 points. The seven blocked shots is the second most in a game in the program's NCAA era, behind only Taj Almon's nine blocked shots against Chestnut Hill on December 15, 2016.

For the Week, he averaged eight rebounds a game, adding seven at Felician on Saturday. He also posted 12 points and five assists in aiding the Wildcats to the 2-0 week.

For the season, Veasley is averaging 7.9 points per game while shooting 50.5 percent from the floor, ranking fourth in the CACC in grabbing 8.3 rebounds a game, and second in the league in picking up 1.9 blocks per game.

The Wildcats travel to Georgian Court Wednesday night for a CACC South Division battle. They return home next Tuesday when they host Goldey-Beacom at the WU Athletics Complex. Both games are scheduled for 8:00 p.m. tips.
