Amiri Stewart Named CACC Defensive Player of the Week

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Amiri Stewart was all over the stat sheet for the Wilmington University men's basketball team last week, leading the Wildcats to a 1-1 week. He was named a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts.

In two games last week, Amiri Stewart averaged a team high 20.5 points per game, but earned CACC Defensive Player of the Week for grabbing 8.0 rebounds 3.0 steals, and 2.0 blocks per game. All but one of his 16 rebounds came on the defensive glass.

In the Wildcats' 85-81 nonconference win against Caldwell, Stewart scored 21 points while securing a double-double with 10 rebounds. He also picked up a pair of blocked shots and four steals against the Cougars. He then scored 20 points at Post, adding six rebounds, two blocked shots, and two steals against the Eagles.

For the season, Stewart is currently seventh in the CACC in scoring 15.9 points per game, third in steals with 46, and eighth in blocks with 20. HE s also in the top 10 in the conference in assists, dishing out 73 so far this year which is 10th most in the league.

Stewart and the Wildcats are home for the next four games, starting on Wednesday, February 14 when they take on Jefferson in a CACC South Division matchup at the WU Athletics Complex. The opening tip is scheduled or 8:00 p.m.
