Weekly CACC Reports Names Wilmington Student-Athletes Joe, Vasapolli, and Mitten Players of the Week

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - A trio of Wilmington University student-athletes earned top weekly honors on Monday, as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference released its weekly reports and Elton Joe, Victoria Vasapolli, and Richie Mitten were named Players of the Week in their respective sports.

Joe (Baltimore, Md./Digital Harbor) extended his point streak to all seven games this season after leading the No. 21 ranked Wilmington men's soccer team to a perfect 3-0 week. Joe assisted on the final goal of a 3-2 victory over Millersville to start the week, and followed up with back-to-back games with two goals each.

The junior transfer scored both goals of a 2-0 win over CACC foe Holy Family on Thursday and came back to score the first and the game-winner in a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Concordia on Saturday afternoon. Joe is now tied with teammate Tommy Quaranta atop the CACC leaderboard with six goals, and leads the CACC with five assists and 17 points. At week's end, Joe is currently third in NCAA Division II with 17 points, fourth in assists, and seventh in goals scored.

On the women's side of the ball, Vasapolli (Burlington, N.J./Burlington City) led the Wilmington women's soccer team to a 5-0 victory over Concordia on Saturday to give the Wildcats a 1-1 overall record for the week. Vasapolli, the 2012 CACC Tournament MVP, scored a pair of goals and added an assist in the victory to help the team to a 2-1 CACC record. Both of her shots in the contest found the back of the net.

Rounding out the third CACC weekly report of 2013, Mitten (Bear, Del./Delaware Military Academy) was named the CACC men's cross country Runner of the Week after leading the Wilmington men's team to a third place finish at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational in a field of 28 teams. The junior runner finished sixth overall out of 210 student-athletes, finishing in a new 8K personal record time of 25:19.63. It is the second straight week Mitten has led the Wildcats during their meet.

For Joe, Vasapolli, and Mitten, it is the first time for each Wildcat to be named CACC Player of Week in their career for their respective sports.
