Four Wildcats Named CACC Players of the Week in Men’s Soccer and Volleyball

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Another solid week of performances on the field and court resulted in four Wilmington University student-athletes being named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Players of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday.

Men's soccer Shawn Genus was named the Player of the Week for the second time this season while Pol Romero was named the CACC Rookie of the Week and Konstantinos Parisis was tabbed the CACC Goalkeeper of the Week. Inside on the court, volleyball's Heather Pedrick was named a Co-Player of the Week.

Shawn Genus (St. Elizabeth, Jamaica) currently leads the CACC with seven goals and 17 points on the year, scoring seven of those points in two games last week. He started by securing a hat trick within 13 minutes of game time against Southern Connecticut State. He then assisted on the game-winning goal against No. 16 Gannon on Saturday, where the Wildcats came back to win, 2-1.

Pol Romero (Palma de Mallorca, Spain) was the beneficiary of the Shawn Genus assist, heading home the cross in the 87th minute against No. 16 Gannon to complete the comeback, 2-1. It was his first collegiate career goal.

Konstantinos Parisis (Thessaloniki, Greece) secured his first collegiate career shutout by stopping three shots against Southern Connecticut State. He then came back out and stopped three shots against No. 16 Gannon, including one in the final moments, diving to his left, to preserve the shutout.

Heather Pedrick (High Springs, Fla.) was a do-it-all player for the Wildcats in three matches last week, helping the team to a 2-1 week. She led the team with 24 kills (2.67 per set), 45 assists (5.00 per set), four aces (0.44 per set), and 30 digs (3.33 per set). She put down nine kills on 17 swings with only error at USciences, hitting a week's high .471. She also put down nine kills against Adelphi, and added six more on 11 swings with only one error against Virginia State, hitting .455. She had a week's high 17 assists against Virginia State and a week's high 12 digs against Adelphi.

Women's soccer freshman Anastasia Diakos was named to the Weekly Honor Roll for her sport after opening the scoring at Mercy with her second goal of the season.
