Wilmington Softball Ranked #1 in Northeast Region

NEW CASTLE, DE -- Wilmington University is pleased to announce that the Wildcat softball program is ranked number one in the NCAA Division II Northeast Region Softball Poll as of March 24th.

The Wildcats currently sport a record of 5-1 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference and 16-6 overall.  Wilmington is led by sophomore pitcher Katie Turner (Smyrna HS/Smyrna, DE), who is 9-2 with a 0.55 earned run average.  Offensively, the 'Cats are led by senior shortstop Nicole Hays (C. Milton Wright HS/Bel Air, MD), who is hitting at a .379 clip with nine runs scored and 15 runs batted in.  Turner was named CACC pitcher of the week twice, while Hays was named CACC Player of the week once.  Freshman infielder Nicci Gebhart (Concord HS/Wilmington, DE) also earned CACC Rookie of the Week honors, and is leading the team in RBIs with 18.

The number one ranking is the highest ranking the softball program has ever received in school history.  It also marks the first time since the Wildcats reclassified to NCAA Division II that any athletic program at Wilmington has been the top ranked team in the region.
