Wilmington Softball’s Caitlyn Whiteside Named CACC Pitcher of the Week

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - A dominating week in the circle results in Wilmington University softball sophomore Caitlyn Whiteside being named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Picher of the Week on Monday, as announced by the conference office.

It is the second time this season that Whiteside (Bermuda Dunes, Calif.) has been named the CACC Pitcher of the Week, as the was also awarded the honor following the team's opening season trip to Myrtle Beach.

The sophomore outperformed herself from her first weekly honor this season, going 4-1 in the circle during the team's annual trip to Florida last week. In five starts, Whiteside tossed 34 innings and only allowed two earned runs and 23 hits. She struck out 23 batters while only giving up six free bases on balls as well.

The week started with a tough outing against nationally ranked Southern Indiana, as she gave up three runs (one earned) on eight hits in a close, 3-2 loss. She bounced back from that contest and shutout Le Moyne, 5-0, completing one of her three complete game shutouts of the week. She struck out two batters while only allowing four hits in the win. She then came back and spun a 4-3 complete game victory against Stonehill, striking out four batters while allowing three runs (one earned) on eight hits.

The final two games of the week were some of her best innings, as she tossed a one-hit complete game shutout against LIU Post, striking out seven batters with only allowing one walk in a 1-0 victory. The week closed out with another 1-0 victory, as she tossed another complete game shutout, allowing only two hits while striking out a week's best eight Hillsdale batters.

Holy Family's Taylor Favinger was named the CACC's Player of the Week while Felician's Nicole Spiegelberg was named the CACC's Rookie of the Week for softball.
