Softball Earns No. 1 Seed and Hosting Duties for NCAA DII East Region 1 Tournament

NEWARK, Del. - - For the first time in program history, the Wilmington University softball team earned the No. 1 seed in the East Region and will host its third Regional Tournament at Asbury Field as the NCAA announced its field for the 2024 NCAA Division II Softball Championship.

The Wildcats hosted a four-team pod in 2019 and 2023, again earning hosting duties as the top seed in the East. The Wildcats are 40-14 overall on the season after earning its fifth Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament Championship on Sunday.

The Wildcats will welcome No. 4 Assumption, No. 5 St. Anselm, and No. 8 St. Thomas Aquinas to New Castle this week to compete in a double-elimination tournament at Asbury Field beginning on Thursday.

The other half of the bracket will be hosted by No. 2 Adelphi, as the Panthers will welcome No. 3 Pace, No. 6 Molloy, and No. 7 Bridgeport to Garden City, New York, to compete in the East 2 Bracket starting on Thursday.

The winner of each pod will advance to a Super Regional best-of-three series, typically played at the higher seed's home field.

The Wildcats begin East Regional play against No. 8 St. Thomas Aquinas on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Asbury Field.
