Two Distance Records Broken as Track and Field Compete at Towson and Widener

TOWSON, Md. - - The Wilmington University track and field teams had 19 Top 10 performances on Friday, including 13 on the men's side and six more on the women's side at the 2024 Towson Invitational on Friday afternoon at Johnny Unitas Stadium.

Tyler Levons went out fast in the 100-meter event, setting a would-be program mark with a 10.52 race in the final, but the wind was too strong (+5.2 m/s) to officially count it towards Wilmington or NCAA records and provisional.

The 4x100 meter relay teams continued to impress in the early part of the season, as the men claimed second overall and the women placed sixth amongst a mixed field of NCAA Division I, II, and III teams. The men trailed UMBC by .24 seconds, finishing second as Matthew Hibbert, Sage Phillips, Juan Fountain, and Tyler Levons crossed in 41.85 seconds. The women were the second NCAA DII team to finish among DI teams in the Top 6. Deja Curry, Temi Mustapaha, Angie Chomo, and Eliza Hildreth ran to a new season's best time of 50.23.

Dallas Parker finished fourth overall in the 400-meter hurdles, getting around the track one time in a span of 57.87 seconds. He also placed fifth overall in the shortened 110-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 15.43 seconds. Bradley Spencer was right behind Parker in both events, finishing sixth in the 110-meter event with a time of 15.46 seconds and fifth in the 400-meter event in 58.01 seconds.

Matthew Hibbert and Juan Fountain finished back-to-back in the 200-meter race, with Hibbert placing fifth overall in 22.12 seconds while Fountain was right behind in 22.22 seconds.

Abigail Chomo had a day's best finish on the women's side, finishing the 3000-meter steeplechase in fifth place overall. She crossed the line in 13:59.95. Temi Mustapha finished eighth overall in the 100-meter sprint, finishing in 12.40 seconds. Tiffany Banning ran the 5000-meter event in 19:07.65, finishing ninth overall.

In the field events, the Wildcats were led by Christian Dollard's sixth-place finish in the discus, flinging the disc 41.85 meters. Abigail Chomo threw the javelin 28.01 meters, finishing seventh place on the women's side.

Dallas Parker had two more Top 10 finishes, clearing the bar on the high jump at 1.75 meters to finish eighth and landing the triple jump in 12.97 meters to place eighth as well. Rayhan Issah jumped a distance of 6.36 meters in the long jump, finishing in ninth place. Temi Mustapha finished eighth overall as well in the triple jump on the women's side, jumping a distance of 10.81 meters.

CHESTER, Pa. - - Both Dan Wyshinski and Trent Taylor set new program records on Friday afternoon as the men's track and field distance runners competed at the Danny Curran Invitational at Widener University.

Dan Wyshinski set a new mark in the 5000-meter event, crossing the line in 15:15.54 to break Mark Corrigan's previous mark by 15:23.71 set in 2019. Wyshinski finished 14th overall at the Danny Curran Invite.

Trent Taylor performed just as well in the longest race of the Invite, running the 10,000-meter event in 32:04.23 on Friday. He broke his own record of 32:14.60 from last year's Danny Curran Invite at Widener. He finished 16th overall in the event on Friday.

The Wildcats will travel to Williamsburg, Virginia, next weekend for their next meet, competing in the Colonial Relays hosted by William and Mary. The two-day event starts on Friday, April 5.
