Wilmington’s Tenicia Spence Picks Up Third CACC Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week Award

 

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Sensational women's basketball freshman Tenicia Spence has been named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday, earning the honor for the third time this season for Wilmington University, announced the conference office today.

Spence, who was named the CACC Rookie of the Week on November 19 and again on January 21, averaged 31.5 points per game in two games this past week, raising her season average to 17.9 points per contest. She is third in the CACC in scoring average.

In the first game of the week, the Baltimore, Md., native tied her career high of 31 points against Philadelphia, hitting two three-pointers and going a perfect 7-of-7 from the foul line in the Wildcats loss. Spence shot 11-for-21 from the floor while grabbing seven rebounds and securing three steals.

Against Caldwell on Saturday, Spence recorded a new career high of 32 points, converting 3-of-5 from beyond the arc while added a near perfect 5-of-6 from the foul line. In all against the Cougars, Spence shot 12-of-27 from the floor. She also added five steals and five rebounds in the loss. Following the halftime break, Spence hit a jumper to bring the Wildcats to within four points, while also scoring the first six points of the second stanza.

In all, Spence shot 47 percent from the floor for the week while hitting 62 percent of her three-pointers. The freshman also hit 92 percent from the charity stripe, ending in 63 total points. Spence also grabbed 12 rebounds while finishing with eight steals.

Caldwell's Jeanette Anderson was named the CACC Women's Player of the Week, pouring in 25 points on 7-of-16 shooting from the floor and adding 11-of-12 points from the foul line against the Wildcats on Saturday.

Concordia's Krystina Agard, Georgian Court's Shauneia McPhearson, and USciences Becca Ruggear were also named to the CACC Weekly Report, earning Women's Honorable Mention honors.

The Wildcats finish up the 2012-13 season this week, heading to Bloomfield on Thursday to make up the rescheduled from winter storm Nemo and finish with Senior Day against Philadelphia on Saturday.
