NEWARK, Del. - - Post's Aubrey Latham paced the Eagles to a 93-77 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory, defeating the Wilmington University women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon at the WU Athletics Center.
Latham scored a game high 41 points, going 12-of-19 from the floor and adding a perfect 16-of-16 from the foul line for Post (4-5, 4-0 CACC). The Wildcats (1-5, 1-2 CACC) had a pair of players reach 20 or more points, but the remaining seven scorers were shut down to 29 points.
Sophomore Tenicia Spence led the Wildcats with 28 points on 12-of-22 shooting, hitting a pair of three-pointers for the home team. Freshman Jasmine Lee, coming off her first career double-double last game, scored a new season high 20 points on 9-of-16 shooting off the bench. She also secured six rebounds and collected three steals in the game.
Wilmington scored two of the first three baskets of the game, grabbing a 4-2 lead with a layup from Allison McDonald with 19:14 showing on the clock, but then it was all Post from there, as the Eagles never gave up the lead the rest of the way. A Lauren Brown made free-throw tied the match for the final time at 5-5 before the Eagles jumped all over the Wildcats.
Despite turning the ball over 34 times themselves, the Eagles took advantage of 28 turnovers by the Wildcats, putting 30 points on the board off Wilmington turnovers. The Eagles grew their lead out to double digits at 29-19 with 9:43 to play in the first half, before reaching its peak at 19 throughout the first stanza.
After the halftime break, the Eagles' lead grew to as large as 25 in the second half before the Wildcats outscored the Eagles, 23-17, over the remaining 9:55 of the game to settle on the final score.
Lee scored 16 points in the second half alone, as Spence was the only Wildcat in double digits at the halftime break with 17 points. Junior Jennifer Carr led the Wildcats with seven rebounds in the contest, grabbing four off the offensive glass. Allison McDonald also collected five rebounds in the game.
Wilmington is in the middle of a four game home stand, as the Wildcats will again play at the WU Athletics Complex in their next contest. They welcome Mercy College to Newark on Monday, for a single nonconference contest. Opening tip is schedule for 6 p.m. on Monday night.
