West Virginia Wesleyan Spoils Senior Night, 74-65, in Wilmington Women’s Basketball Season Finale

West Virginia Wesleyan used its size to gain a substantial rebounding margin against the Wilmington University women's basketball team, spoiling Senior Night, 74-65, on Tuesday night at the WU Athletics Complex to close out the 2014-15 season.

The Bobcats (4-21) collected 10 more offensive rebounds and held a rebound margin of 15 boards for the game to defeat the Wildcats (8-20) in the regular season finale.

The Wildcats held a lead as late as 12:13 left in regulation following a second half comeback, but the Bobcats went on a 13-2 run midway through the second half to gain a 60-50 advantage and control the rest of the contest.

Trailing by as many as 13 in the first half, the Wildcats were able to cut the deficit to three points heading into the halftime break. The Wildcats trailed 32-19 with 5:43 left in the first half before a 14-4 run brought the Wildcats back into the contest before the break.

Tashea Plummer started an 8-0 run with a layup before Jocelyn Rodriguez knocked down a midrange jumper while being fouled to bring the Wildcats to within seven. the sophomore hit the ensuring free throw to continue the streak before Zameria Jones made it 34-31 with 50 seconds left in the half with another old-fashioned three-point play in the paint. After the Bobcats broke the 8-0 run, Lindsay Bradford scored the final bucket of the half in the paint, bringing the Wildcats to within three, 36-33.

A quick 4-0 spurt out of the gates in the second half gave the Wildcats a 37-36 lead, getting buckets from Ebonee Dixon and Cari Callaway in the first minute of play. The teams traded buckets as the Wildcats could only gain as large as a three-point lead, with the lead changing hands six times in the second half.

A Tenicia Spence jumper gave the Wildcats their last lead, 48-47, with 13:00 minutes left before the Bobcats went on their 13-2 run to take over the contest.

Plummer led the Wildcats with her first double-double of the season, scored 10 points while grabbing 10 rebounds, five of which came on the offensive glass. Fellow senior Taylor Carter led the Wildcats with 11 points, hitting a pair of three-pointers while dishing out a team high three assists. Callaway, another senior, scored 10 points as well, grabbing three rebounds and dishing out two assists in her final game as a Wildcat.

KiKi DeVane led the Bobcats with 10 points and 17 rebounds, 12 of which came on the offensive glass. Mari Stewart scored a game high 19 points while Allie Browne chipped in with 10. Allyson Freiermuth added 10 rebounds off the bench for the Bobcats.

Plummer, Callaway, Carter, and classmate Jennifer Carr (three rebounds tonight) were honored at halftime for their years of commitment to the Wildcat women's basketball program. Callaway was a four-year letterwinner, Carter and Plummer three-year letterwinners, and Carr was a two-year letterwinner for the Wildcats.
