NEWARK, Del. - - When the Wilmington University women's lacrosse team takes the field on Saturday against NCAA Division and in-state foe Delaware State, it will be playing for more than just another notch in the win column.

Saturday's non-conference game starting at 1 p.m. at the WU Athletics Complex will be the Wildcats' Keep Calm and Lax On Liver Disease Awareness game benefiting the American Liver Foundation. The Wildcats are looking to raise awareness and funds through t-shirt sales and basket raffles prior to and during Saturday's game.

Along with raising liver disease awareness, the game will be played in honor and memory of Walter J. Kern III, father of current senior captain Ali Kern. After a long batter with liver disease, Walt passed away on November 15, 2012. He devoted much of his time to the sport of lacrosse, mainly through his involvement with the Middletown Youth Lacrosse Club. With his dedication to the sport, Walt coached over 100 boys who have gone on to play for 18 different high schools in the states of Delaware and Maryland.

During pre-game, the Wildcats and the Hornets will be donning special shirts during shoot around and all fans are encouraged to wear green and yellow in support of liver disease and transplant awareness.

T-shirts will be available for sale prior to and during the game with sizes youth-large to adult extra-large selling for $12.00 and adult XXL-XXXL for $15.00. Donations will also be accepted throughout the game while the American Liver Foundation will be in attendance and have a table set up with more information on how to join the fight against liver disease.

Opening draw is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the WU Athletics Complex, but be sure to come out early and support a good cause and help root on your Wildcats.
