Women’s Lacrosse Earns First Place Vote, Takes Third in 2021 CACC Preseason Poll

Written by CACC Associate Commissioner Doug DeBiase

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Three-time defending champion Georgian Court University on Thursday was picked first in the 2021 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Lacrosse Preseason Coaches Poll, as announced by Commissioner Dan Mara. The voting for the poll was conducted by the league's 10 head coaches in the sport.

Wilmington picked up the final first place vote and garnered 74 points to take third place in the preseason poll. The Wildcats had a tough early season schedule before the pandemic hit last year, playing a pair of nationally ranked teams in route to a 1-6 start. But they are officially coming off a trip to the CACC Tournament Semifinals in 2019, in which they lost to Jefferson in overtime.

GCU received 86 points in the voting, including six first-place votes. Thomas Jefferson University, which squared off with the Lions in the 2019 conference final, was second in the poll with 79 points and two first-place nods. Wilmington University was third with 74 points and the other first-place vote.

The 2021 season gets underway with a pair of nonconference road games for the Wildcats, first on March 20 at Frostburg State.

The 2021 CACC Women's Lacrosse season gets in full swing this weekend with several teams in non-conference action. The league schedule gets going on Tuesday, March 30. The 2021 CACC Women's Lacrosse Championship will be contested the week of May 3-9. The first-round games will be held on Tuesday, May 4, while the semifinals will take place on Friday, May 7. The two semifinal winners will square off in the CACC Championship Final on Sunday, May 9. Each game in the tournament will be played at the sites of the higher seeds.
